Glorious Goodwood Vintage Races

BIG THANKS to Ben for inviting me to stay at his place and to Mai for the extra ticket. This was the most amazing occasion with thousands of vintage cars just lined up (and that was just in the carpark/field!). There were Bentley's and Buggattis like they were going out of fashion (mmm, actually they have!). So after recovering from the 350 mile drive to Aldershot, some nosh and shut-eye, I was fresh and ready to motor the 20 miles to Goodwood, in our 1938 Reilly Kestral - Oh, you've got to arrive in style my man!

Only draw-back with such a beauty of an old car, is that in today's modern traffic, especially in traffic jams as we experienced closer to Goodwood, the engine wasn't getting enough air into it to cool down! Oh yes, we had to get towed 'a little bit' until things had cooled down a tad. Still, it was all part of the fun.

We also had our vintage wicker basket picnic packed with a good Shampoo to wash it down with. I also had the chance for a five minute chat with Lord Mandelson, who happened to be looking at some togs in a vintage clothing shop. I made the mistake of explaining when we had last met in Northern Ireland whilst I was there working as a reporter. My mistake (I should have known), and I hardly saw him for dust after that. Still, five minutes is a long time in politics!

Right, without further ado, some pics of the three of us on our picnic out to Glorious Goodwood, as we sipped G&T's, had Spitfires fly over us, and Fraser Nash's whizzing past...JUST GLORIOUS...
